In honor of Courtney Jean Roderick, after the 2018 First Annual Run for Recovery, we presented a check to Gateway's Eastman house for a total of $7,000.
Our donations benefited women in this residential home which offers supportive treatment for women at high risk, especially those who have experienced trauma and/or struggling with addiction.
Jacqueline Berry, who was the house manager, used this money for all new bedding, carpeting, and shades in each bedroom, as well as providing a recreational room including a ping pong and pool table and a place for the women to spend time with their children during scheduled visits. The money was also used for essential items, such as shoes, winter coats, and hygiene products to help during troubled times.
In 2019, we were able to donate over $8,000 to Crossroad Shelter in Providence through the Second Annual Run for Recovery!
In 2020, despite a global pandemic, through a virtual run we were able to donate $5,000 to Trinity Village Women's Home in Middletown. The Courtney Roderick Run for Recovery Foundation Award offered our members and their families access to recovery housing, recovery coaching, access to treatment and educational workshops, babysitting services, recovery transport, employment resources, and community meetings.
As a result of their love and dedication to Courtney, their generous gift of $7,000 provided the following:
In 2021, we presented a check for $12,000 to SSTARbirth. They used the funds for bedding, curtains, and lamps for the individual bedrooms; televisions and stands for the women and children's sitting areas as well as one larger TV with a rolling stand for the women's virtual AA/NA meetings and virtual visits with family, sponsors, etc. (on-site visits continue to be limited due to COVID). A small amount was put aside in case help is needed with women's/children's prescriptions (sometimes there is a gap in medical insurance), or emergency transportation. Some funds will be used for memberships to a local fitness center for our women to attend, a couple of baby soothing mats (helpful to babies with NAS), and some car seats and/or highchairs for women who may need them. The donation may also come in handy if any of our women need help during this interim period.
In 2022, we presented a check for $16,000 to the Jim Gillen Teen Center. They reported using the funds to get photography and videography equipment delivered soon as well as a new MacBook and editing software.
The new MacBook was requested along with the video equipment in order for them to be able to edit their work while they are out recording in their surrounding areas. Some of the teens will be taking classes to learn how to use the equipment and editing software to the fullest potential. They also requested an air hockey table more recently, so they will be using the leftover funds for that as well as their upcoming summer field trips which are still TBD.
In 2023, we donated $10,000 to the Salvation Army! The funds that were given to The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation, helped to fund our 126-bed recovery center for men and women who are struggling with addictions. Our 7-12-month residential program is completely free for each resident in our program. It’s a place where they get individual counseling, group counseling, and can help find coping methods, healing, and a new beginning. It’s donations like these that help bring hope to these residents who may have come in feeling helpless. We appreciate your donation and the difference you have helped us make to so many who have come through our doors.
